Malung 01-05-23

Short history:

Ski Club Malung has since 1980 arranged an alpine slalomcompetition only for girls. From the start it was called " Snowdripslalom" (for your information: a snowdrip is the first springflower in Sweden. It can grow even when there still is snow on the ground). This was then an educational competition where all participants were female, both competitors and staff. From 1990 it changed and Rossignol became the main sponsor together with Lindvallen Ski Resort. Our purpose was to develop a first class FIS-race where all female skiers were welcome to participate, both young and old. Today the race consists of three classes; girls 12-13 years old, girls 14-15 years old and ladies 16- up to the proffesional World Cup skiers. This makes a total of about 300 competitors.

The competition is unique because it is the only alpine race where young girls compete with the WC-stars, both Swedish and foreign. This concept is one of a kind and this possibility to mingle with the WC-stars during one day plays an important role developing our young skiers and promoting the alpine sport to the public. It is a family feast with excellent skiing, entertainment and good food to enjoy in the slope and it all reaches it´s peak at the price ceremony when number one, two and three in each class stand on the podium together at the same time. It is a fantastic experience for a twelve year old girl to share the podium with e.g. Pernilla Wiberg, Anja Pärson or one of the other WC-stars.
